Is there anything better than spending a Saturday at the park with your pooch? We don’t think so! Dog parks have everything your dog could ever dream of; friendly dogs, toys, wide open spaces, and treats! Now, we’re not naive to the fact that taking Fido to the park can be stressful. Dog Park Etiquette

Never been to a dog park? No worries! We’re here to help you learn dog park etiquette. The last thing you want is to offend or disrupt playtime for other dog lovers in your community. Only you know your dog best, if your dog doesn’t play well with others, keep them on a leash at all time. If they’re territorial of their toys, maybe don’t bring toys. Other off leash dogs aren’t going to know the difference between their toys and yours, so it’s best to leave your dog’s favorite toys at home.

You should also be sure to pick up after your pooch. Come with poop bags in hand, ready to go. Leaving your dog’s “presents” all over the park will only annoy other dog parents.

Last, but not least, don’t leave your dog unattended. Many dog parks allow for off-leash play, but don’t stray from the park. This makes other dog owners responsible for your pooch, which they typically won’t appreciate.  Follow these simple rules and you and Fido will make new friends and have a great experience on your next outing.

How To Prepare

If you’ve never been to the dog park, you may not know exactly what you should bring. Don’t worry, we’re here to help! So what should you always take with you to the park?

  • Poop Bags
  • A collar/harness and leash
  • Your own water bowl
  • Treats
  • Travel Bag

Make sure you have all of these items before leaving for the dog park. Even if the park has their own waste bags, it’s best to bring your own, just in case.

We also recommend bringing your own water bowl, why? Dogs don’t get sick very often, because they don’t spend much time with other dogs, nor do they share drinks with other dogs. Sharing a water bowl with another dog will make your dog susceptible to any diseases the other dogs at the park may have. Take a water bottle with you and let Fido have their own water bowl to sip from.

Another way to prepare? Make sure your dog is trained well enough to go to the park. If you’re not sure how your dog will respond to other dogs, keep them on a leash. Better safe than sorry. If there are other dogs at the park, introduce your dog to them while leashed, and if problems arise you know to leave them on a leash the whole time.

Dogs can be unexpected, never put your dog in a situation where they’ll be uncomfortable or feel threatened. If you have to ease them into it, so be it. Eventually, they’ll be running around the park on their own and making new friends!

Harness & Leash Combo

We prefer harnesses over collars because they’re harder to get out of, and they’re also safer for your dog’s neck. When your dog pulls, the force is evenly distributed over their torso, rather than on their trachea. If you need a dependable harness for the dog park, URPOWER is a fantastic brand to try out.

harness

Both the harness and the leash are extremely durable. Made with two thick layers of blue jeans, and red nylon. This gives the set a sleek look, without compromising on dependability. Even the strongest dogs will be contained in this harness. The harness has heavy duty hardware that’s resistant to rust and completely adjustable.

We have also found that dogs are comfortable in this set. It doesn’t have any hard edges that will rub your dog the wrong way or cause chaffing.

No matter how large or small your pooch is, this is a great combo for the dog park. It’s available in three sizes, and stylish enough for any pup.

The chest size on the small is adjustable between 12.6 and 18.5″, the medium is 18.6 – 20.5, and the large is 20.6 – 28.5″.

Bixbi immune support

Dogs don’t typically spend a lot of time with other canines, which is why dogs don’t get sick very often. Unfortunately, if you’re exposing your dog to new friends at the park, they’ll also be exposed to the germs of other dogs at the park. A vitamin that supports your dog’s immune system will help prevent disease.

Bixbi has a whole line of health supplements for dogs. Their immunity powder is great for fighting off diseases such as the flu. Especially during the winter months, it’s smart to add a supplement like this into your dog’s diet. Bixbi is made from a blend of healthy mushrooms that give your dog a wide range of antioxidants and polysaccharides to support their inflammatory responses and blood cell production. Bixbi is made and sourced in the USA with organic ingredients. We recommend Bixbi to any pup parent worried about the flu this winter season. It’s made with organic, natural ingredients that are safe for dogs of all ages, and contain simple, wholesome ingredients.
