crate safety

Many dog owners use crates to lock up their pups when they leave the house or to give them a place to go when there’s too much going on around the house. Crate training is an important first step when you get a puppy. Crate trained puppies can calmy stay put in the crate without fighting to get out. If your dog is still uneasy around crates, or you know they’ll be trying to escape, a heavy duty crate may be your best option.

heavy duty dog crates

Your dog won’t be able to chew through the bars, move the crate, or easily break the door open. You can leave your pup alone in the crate knowing that they’ll be safe.

There are a few safety tips to keep in mind if you’re going to use crates for your pups. First of all, never leave your dog in a crate longer than they can easily hold their bladders or bowels. The last thing you want is to keep your pup cooped up so long that they need to relieve themselves in the crate.

One of the most important things to keep in mind is that dogs should not be crated with their collars on. The collars could get stuck on the metal bars causing your dog distress and inevitably could choke them. If they’re in the crate, there’s no reason to keep the collar on them, so give them some freedom and take every precaution to keep them safe.

The last thing to keep in mind is that the crate should be in a place that has a comfortable temperature for your dog. Basements can often be too cold for smaller breeds with short coats, and places such as garages can prove to be too extreme for dogs.
