What is the Doggie Dooley System?
What’s better than having a nice clean lawn for you and your pup to play in? With the Doggie Dooley System, waste will be disposed in a nice, neat, and clean way in your own backyard. The environmentally friendly in-ground systems are harmless to pets, lawns and trees. They are also ideal for most yard and soil conditions. The Doggie Dooley Systems were first created in 1968. For over 40 years, they’ve provided people with easier ways to handle their pets waste. It works like a miniature septic tank. It utilizes the natural bacteria and enzyme cultures to reduce dog waste to a ground absorbing liquid.
Furthermore, HT-Pet offers three different Doggie Dooley systems, Model 3500, Model 3800X and their best-selling product, model 3000. These models feature a plastic tank with extension panels and has a foot operated lip opener. Each model offers different abilities such as the number of pets you have and the type of soil in your yard. With these products, you will receive a starter pack of the Waste Terminating Digester. By adding the digester, it will speed up the process. It is a non-toxic, harmless mixture that breaks down waste and controls odor.
How Does it Work?
The Doggie Dooley System works similar to a home septic tank. Septic systems are designed to convert solid waste into liquid. This liquid waste then passes through the soil to be absorbed into the subsoil. As sunlight, rain, and microbes in the soil naturally occur, it will help to eliminate waste in the environment. The addition of the Waste Terminator Digester will greatly speed up the process in a safe and natural way.
First, select where you want to install the Doggie Dooley. You will want the system to be at least a few feet away from your home and reachable by a garden hose. Second, dig a hole in your yard about 4 feet deep and install the Doggie Dooley into the hole. Make sure to install the system in soil that drains, not in heavy clay. Once installed, all you have to do is drop the dog
waste into the system to let it work naturally to break it down. It is recommended to clean up your yard every day or two to avoid overloading the Doggie Dooley.
If you’re looking to buy this product, you may have some questions. That’s why we put together this list of common questions asked by pet owners.
Can I test my yard to ensure the Doggie Dooley will work?
Yes, you can. Performing a test will help you decide whether a Doggie Dooley system will be effective in your yard. To do so, dig a hole approximately 1 foot wide and 2 feet deep. Then, pour 5 gallons of water into the hole. Third, check the hole in 24 hours. If there is still standing water, check back in 48 hours. If there is still water after that, the Doggie Dooley system will not be effective in that location. So, test another spot! However, if the water is gone, you can use either the tank or pyramid Doggie Dooley.
What do I do if my unit is filling up instead of draining?
For starters, the tank will always have waste in it. The digestive actions happen at the bottom of the pile under water. You should make sure there is always enough water because that’s what activates the Digester Powder. Don’t ever let the tank become completely dry. If your tank seems to be filling up too much, the soil may have clay content that is preventing the draining. If this is the case, the unit needs to be moved to an area with good soil.
What do I do if my dog swallows the Digester Powder?
The Digester Powder and Tablets are made with wheat bran, grain, and sodium bicarbonate. The enzyme and bacteria in these are not harmful to humans or pets. If your pup swallows the powder or tablets, rinse their mouth and face as quickly as possible. If redness or irritation occurs, seek medical attention.
How do I maintain the Doggie Dooley?
If you installed the pyramid model, you need to add 5 gallons of water 2-3 times a week. Next, add one measured tablespoon of the Digester powder or 1 Digester tablet per dog each week. Waste should be added to the unit on a daily basis. If you have a tank model, you should add 1 gallon of water daily and 1 tablespoon of Digester powder or 1 Digester tablet per dog each week. Add stools on a daily basis.
5 Facts About Pet Waste Systems
If you’re thinking about getting a Pet Waste System, you may be wanting to know more about them. That’s where we come in! We’ve done some research and put together some facts to help you decide if these units are the right fit for you.
- If you have clay soil, drainage will not work and may prevent the system from working. Doing a test to see how your soil drain is recommended before installing the unit. Refer to the FAQ section to see directions on how to test your soil.
- Digesters depend on temperature. The higher the temperature (over 40 degrees), the better it will work. You may only be able to use the digesters in warmer season
- If your dog eats premium food, you might want to use an enzyme specifically made for highly digestible food.
- Chlorinated water reduced the effectiveness of the enzyme digesters. So, a way to remove chlorine is to put at least 5 gallons of water in a bucket and leave it in direct sunlight for 48 hours.
- Make sure you have enough waste digester appropriate for the number of dogs you have. That way you will not overload the system before it has time to break down.
