AmazonBasicsCrate

In general, dog crates are used by almost every owner to provide a safe space for their pup. Depending on your dog’s temperament, using a crate could be your best option when you leave for work or errands. Your pillows may thank you! Specifically, wire dog crates are great for dogs that need something a bit more sturdy. While not completely inescapable, with walls and doors made of strong wire these dog crates are harder to get out of than most. After some research we have found the best wire crates that include everything you need. From durable metal, easily cleaned floor pans ,secure locks, and a divider; you and your dog will be set!

The great thing about these crates is that your dog can be a part of the group no matter where they are. Since the wire does not cover the entire crate, your pup will be able to see all around them at all times and know where you are. Some dogs enjoy this open feeling because it can feel like added security.

  • Light in weight
  • Carrying handle
  • Satin black Electro-Coat finish
  • Single and double door design available
  • Removable floor pan

STRUCTURE:

The MidWest iCrate Folding Dog Crate is great because of its quality design and durable construction. Although, what truly makes this crate unique is the fact that it creates a sturdy structure but can also collapse flat for storage. The ability to change shape makes it perfect to transport or store in a small area. Also, since it’s a bit on the lighter side, moving the entire crate around will not be an issue. Even better, there is a convenient carrying handle. In terms of overall look, the MidWest iCrate Folding Dog Crate is pretty classic. When this crate is standing up straight, its satin black Electro-Coat finish will make it look great in any room. Plus, if you want some added flair; the crate does come in blue and pink for the 24″ size, single-door option.

If you like all of these elements but need 2 doors instead of one do not worry! This company actually offers this crate in both single or double door. The only downside we have noticed with this crate is that the edges of the wires are a bit sharper than most crates. However, this will really only becomes an issue when you are trying to assemble the crate and have to work with the edges to safely set it up. Would it affect your pup? Not likely.

QUALITIES:

Inside of this crate there is a leak-proof plastic pan that can be used with training which is great for new pups. Also, since it can be removed you can easily clean it if there is an accident. To keep your floor clean as well the crate has rubber soles that will keep marks from appearing when the crate moves.

Another reason why this crate is perfect for new pups is the free divider that is included. With this divider, you can make the create grow as your dog grows. This will make them feel more comfortable and in a den-like space. Since puppies tend to have a lot of energy they may jump around and even try to escape. Thankfully, to make sure that these energetic pups stay put the crate comes with slide bolt latches to keep the crate closed.

Amazon Basics Folding Metal Crate

BENEFITS:
  • Sturdy metal design
  • Single and double door design available
  • Easy to assemble
  • Collapses flat for storage and transportation
  • Divider panel included
  • Removable floor pan
  • 2 slide-bolt latches on each door
STRUCTURE:

The Amazon Basics Folding Metal Crate is made from sturdy metal. With this crate, you get the choice of either a single or double door design. If you choose to have double doors one will be on the front and the other on the side. This will allow you to always have an entry point even if the front is blocked by a wall or couch. No matter which door you choose assembling the crate will be fairly easy.

However, once constructed you will quickly find out that metal design makes it quite heavy. It adds so much weight that even the 22″ crate can be difficult to drag around. Considering the sturdy metal used in this design the weight is well worth the added protection in our opinion. Although, if you do need to move it the crate can fold flat allowing you to transport and store it with ease.

QUALITIES:

This crate also includes a divider panel which can easily be placed inside of the crate to make it smaller for growing puppies. This will prevent your dog from using one side of the crate as a bathroom. If you are a puppy owner you will also be happy to hear that it has a removable pan on the bottom to catch any messes before they ruin your floor.

In addition to these elements, there is also 2 slide-bolt latches on the door. This will keep even the most energetic of dogs inside until you get home. If you get the double door design they will be on both doors giving you double the security.

SIZES:
  • 22” in length x 13” in width x 16” in height
  • 24” in length x 18” in width x 20” in height
  • 30” in length x 19” in width x 21” in height
  • 36” in length x 23” in width x 25” in height
  • 42” in length x 28” in width x 30” in height
  • 48” in length x 30” in width x 32.5” in height

MidWest Life stages Folding Crate

BENEFITS:
  • Single and double door design available
  • Satin black Electro-Coat finish
  • Collapses flat for transportation and storage
  • Thick metal
  • Tight wire design
  • Larger sizes
  • Carrying handle
  • Divider included
  • Removable floor pan
  • Slide bolt latches
  • Rubber feet
STRUCTURE:

The MidWest Life stages folding crate is designed much like the regular MidWest folding crate. They both come in a double or single door design, have a satin black Electro-Coat finish, and fall flat to allow for easy storage or transportation. These crates have many similar aspects but the Life Stages crate is much sturdier than the other. This is because it has a thicker metal and tighter wire design. Both of these elements will prevent the crate from bending or sustaining bite marks.

With all these elements and a wide range of sizes, this crate is great for larger breeds. However, there are two issues that we have noticed with this crate’s design. First, the doors are the flimsiest part of the entire crate. While they do not allow your dog to escape they do not seem as well built. These crates are all also very heavy but considering the durable metal used in the design, this is to be expected. Fortunately, if you have any issues with this crate, it has a 1-year warranty, so you can easily return it if needed.

QUALITIES:

When this crate is laid flat there is a handle allowing you to easily carry it with you. Once you get it to the destination and set it up the other great qualities it holds becomes available. First, there is a dividing panel that allows you to give your dog more room as they grow. Having this panel gives the crate a den-like feel which will lessen the chance of your dog having accidents. However, if one does happen do not worry! At the bottom of the crate, there is a removable pan that can be easily cleaned.

Another great quality that this crate has is the slide-bolt latches that are used to keep the doors closed. If you get the double door design both doors will have this latch keeping every access point secure. They may be sturdy but will probably not deter your pup from still trying their hardest to open the door. This may cause them to jump around and in turn slide the crate around on the floor. Thankfully, to protect your floors from marks this crate has rubber feet.

SIZES:
  • 22” in length x 13” in width x 16” in height
  • 24” in length x 18” in width x 21” in height
  • 30” in length x 21” in width x 24” in height
  • 36” in length x 24” in width x 27” in height
  • 42” in length x 28” in width x 31” in height
  • 48” in length x 30” in width x 33” in height

Paws & Pals Dog Crate

BENEFITS:
  • Made out of steel
  • Black electro-coated
  • Tensile wire
  • 100% washable
  • Collapses flat or transportation and storage
  • Double doors (Except 20” size)
  • Divider included (Except 20” size)
  • Floor tray
  • Non Skid feet
  • Carrying handle
STRUCTURE:

The Paws & Pals dog crate is unique because it is made out of steel. Although, do not think that this means it will be stiff. Instead, the black electro-coat finished wire is tensile and will move with tension or force. This means that your dog can lay or lean against the side comfortably. The steel used on the crate is also 100% washable, so you won’t have to worry about its coating deteriorating with use. Not only will the wire move with tension but it will also move to fold the crate flat. This will be very helpful with transportation and storage in small areas. However with double doors, well on every crate except the 20” one, the last thing the crate will feel like is small.

We believe that this crate is ideal for dogs who are already used to crates and that do not have high anxiety. The crate is designed to be lightweight and easy to move around; therefore, durability is somewhat compromised. If you have an anxious pup that is going to try their hardest to escape, they most likely will. Any dog (of any size) that is comfortable with crates and will not be trying to destroy the crate will be just fine. We would highly suggest this crate for dog owners that do not need the added protection for anxious dogs or new puppies trying to crate train.

QUALITIES:

In every size crate except the 20” one, there is a removable divider. With this divider, you can increase the size of the crate as they get bigger. Since puppies seem to grow before your very eyes we believe that this would make a great option for that age. Also, with a tray on the bottom, it will protect your floor as you potty train. Some pups may be better at this training than others but one thing they all have in common is their energy. Even when they are inside of the crate they may still be jumping around. Thankfully, on the bottom, there are feet made specifically not to skid which will prevent scratches. Though, if you really want to protect the floors we recommend using the carrying handle on top to move it around.

SIZES:
  • 20″ in length x 13 in width x 16″ in height
  • 30″ in length x 18″ in width x 20″ in height
  • 36″ in length x 22″ in width x 25″ in height
  • 42″ in length x 27″ in width x 30″ in height
  • 48″ in length  x 27″ in width x 30″ in height

ProSelect Guardians Gear Dog Crate

BENEFITS:
  • Lightweight
  • Easy to assemble
  • Collapses flat for transportation and storage
  • 3 color options
  • 2 sliding latches (except for 18” size)
  • Removable floor tray
  • Divider included
STRUCTURE:

The ProSelect Dog Crate is lightweight and easy to use. We label this crate as easy because it is simple to assemble and lays flat for smooth transportation. Basically, if you don’t like the gym; you’ll love this crate option. With all of these elements together, we would highly suggest this for dog owners that need a convenient crate for traveling. It will get to your next destination without any issues and then not take more than a few seconds to set up.

Unlike the other crates we have reviewed, the ProSelect Dog Crate one is only available with one door. You should consider what would be more convenient for you before purchasing. However, something special that separates this crate from the others is its variety color choices. Instead of coming in just plain black, it is actually available in 3; black, raspberry, and teal. You’ll be able to better match your household decor! In the end, the only issue we ran into was that the crates are actually smaller than expected. To make sure this does not cause a problem we suggest ordering one size up from what you would expect your pup to need.

QUALITIES:

To keep your pet safe in their crate during the trip there are 2 sliding latches on the door. The only crate that is different is the 18” crate which has only 1 latch. Although, with such a small crate and dog this does not seem like it will be an issue. One issue you may still have to deal with though is doggie bathroom accidents. Thankfully, to make cleaning easy the crate comes with a removable floor tray. One way you may be able to prevent these accidents is by making the crate smaller with the divider that is included. Since they do not want to make a mess in their personal area it will deter them from going potty inside.

SIZES:
  • 18″ in length x 12.5″ in width x 15″ in height
  • 24″ in length x 17″ in width x 20″ in height
  • 30″ in length x 19″ in width x 22″ in height
  • 36″ in length x 22.5” in width x 25″ in height
  • 42″ in length x 28″ in width x 31″ in height
  • 48″ in length x 30″ in width x 33″ in height

You Might Need a Crate Cover

Love everything wire crates have to offer but find that the open view makes your pup anxious? For some dogs, the open wire can make them feel vulnerable. Not to mention it can also make them upset if they see you. If your pup does end up whining all you have to do is put a crate cover over it to create more of a safe space for Fido. This may block their vision but it will still keep the ventilation from the openings. If you find yourself interested in a crate cover check out our Top Crate Covers.
